In a recent turn of events, a video featuring Seun Kuti, the son of legendary Afrobeat maestro Fela Kuti,
has gone viral, causing a stir across social media platforms. The recording captures Seun proudly boasting about slapping numerous policemen, citing his status as a famous personality as the reason behind his actions. The exact date of the video remains uncertain, but in it,
Seun unabashedly declares, "Some of you police officers get slapped, then
you come on Instagram to explain yourselves. Do you know how many policemen
I've given a resounding slap? They say it's because I am Fela's son. Don't they
know that just as Jesus is the Son of God, He could die for you? You must know
your identity before making your move. I make my move because I know who I
am."
Previously, Daily Trust had reported that the
Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, had issued an order for
Seun Kuti's arrest after he was caught assaulting a police officer on duty. In
response to this development, the musician took to his Instagram story on
Saturday night to address the incident. Seun claimed that the officer had
attempted to harm him and his family, even presenting evidence to support his
claims. However, he stated that he did not seek publicity through this matter
and revealed that the policeman had issued an apology, which he had graciously
accepted.
"He tried to kill me and my family. I have the proof,
but I'm not seeking attention. He has apologized, and I have chosen not to
press charges. Let everyone mind their own business, so the poor guy doesn't
lose his job," Seun explained.
Regarding the order for his arrest, the singer welcomed the
investigation and expressed his willingness to fully cooperate. In his
statement, he also urged the Inspector-General of Police to ensure that any
wrongdoing is properly addressed and those responsible are held accountable.
"I welcome the investigation and will provide my full
cooperation! I also pray that the IG ensures the guilty party is
indicted," Seun wrote, emphasizing his commitment to the truth.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another musician's
encounter with law enforcement. Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable,
was recently arrested for harassing several policemen. After his detention at
the police headquarters in Ogun state, Portable was subsequently arraigned at a
magistrate's court in Ifo Local Government Area and later sent to Ilaro Prison
until he meets the conditions for bail.
Seun Kuti's clash with the police has generated significant
attention, prompting discussions about the use of power, identity, and
responsibility. As the situation unfolds, the public eagerly awaits further
updates on the investigation and hopes for a fair resolution for all parties
involved.
