The recent victory of Ademola Adeleke at the Supreme Court over the Osun State
governorship election has elicited a response from the President-elect, Bola Tinubu. In the 2022 poll, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Adegboyega Oyetola, had contested the results with Adeleke, which eventually led to the sacking of Adeleke by the tribunal. However, the Appeal Court and the Supreme Court subsequently upheld Adeleke as the authentic winner of the election. In his reaction, Tinubu congratulated Adeleke and urged
everyone to respect the verdict of the Supreme Court. According to him, it is
essential to uphold democracy and the rule of law. He also commended Oyetola
for exercising his democratic rights, despite the outcome of the election.
Tinubu also acknowledged Oyetola's efforts in bringing efficiency,
transparency, and accountability to the governance of the state.
Tinubu went on to encourage Adeleke to settle down to work
and unite the state. He also urged the people of Osun to work together towards
peace and progress in the state. Tinubu's statement emphasized the importance
of democracy, respect for the rule of law, and the need to put aside political
differences for the development of the state.
In conclusion, Tinubu's reaction to Adeleke's victory at the
Supreme Court showed his commitment to the democratic process and his belief in
the rule of law. He called for unity and peaceful coexistence in Osun State,
underscoring the need for all stakeholders to work together for the development
of the state.
