A group of Nigerians who were fleeing the war in Sudan have arrived at Port Sudan, with more
expected to arrive soon. The Nigerian government has already made arrangements to airlift them back home, with the Nigerian Air Force, Azman Air, and Air Peace offering their services. Air Peace has even offered their service for free. The first batch of Nigerians who arrived at Port Sudan were
nine people whose bus had broken down and had to stay overnight at an RSF
checkpoint. The tire of their bus had exploded near the checkpoint, but luckily
they were able to join another bus sent by the transport company.
While on their way, they learned that the rest of the
students who were also being evacuated from Sudan had been held up after the
city of Atbara. But the nine people were not affected by the delay and were
able to reach Port Sudan without any issues.
Upon arrival at Port Sudan, they met about 40 Nigerian
students, some with their families, who had made their own arrangements to
leave their accommodations and come directly to Port Sudan. These students were
said to be from Madani, a city south of Khartoum in neighbouring Jazeera State.
The Nigerian government had evacuated the Nigerians from
Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, and they were being brought back to Nigeria.
This development provides hope for other Nigerians still in Sudan who are
seeking a way out of the war-torn country.
