The Kwara State Police Command has reported the arrest of a medical doctor, Dr. Ayodele Joseph, for
allegedly sedating and raping a patient during a surgery. The state's Commissioner of Police, Paul Odama, confirmed the arrest and made a statement about the incident on Friday.Dr. Joseph, who is the
Chief Medical Director of Ayodele Hospital located in the Sawmill area of
Ilorin, was paraded alongside 13 other suspects at the police headquarters.
According to Odama, the patient who is a professional nurse had visited the
hospital for surgery but discovered that she was fully naked after the
procedure.
The police commissioner
revealed that the doctor had been charged to court in the past for offenses
related to unprofessional conduct leading to the death of a patient in his
facility. He added that on May 5, 2023, a female nurse visited Ayodele Hospital
for surgery and was allegedly sedated by Dr. Joseph during the treatment, which
caused her to become unconscious.
The patient, before the
sedation, recorded the surgery on her phone and placed it in a strategic
position. Upon waking up after the surgery, she found herself completely naked,
and upon viewing the recorded video, discovered that Dr. Joseph had engaged in
unlawful sexual intercourse with her while she was under sedation.
The investigation into
the incident led to the recovery of the video recording, which was corroborated
by medical examinations conducted on the victim. Odama added that Dr. Joseph
had previously been charged to court for criminal conspiracy, negligent
conduct, causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others, and
culpable homicide due to his unprofessional conduct, which led to the death of
a patient in his hospital under questionable circumstances.
The police commissioner
stated that the suspect would face charges of rape again after the completion
of the investigation.
