You Can Not Stop Melaye From Being Kogi Governor – PDP Criticizes Wike
Tony Ehilebo,
a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has strongly criticized
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State for opposing the governorship ambition of
former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye. Wike had stated during a media chat in
Port Harcourt that Melaye lacked the qualities to be the governor of Kogi State
and that the PDP would be making a huge mistake if he emerged as the party’s
governorship flagbearer.
In response,
Melaye had accused Wike of being angry because he was not chosen as the running
mate of PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. Melaye had also alleged
that Wike had called him about 19 times in two hours, appealing to him to
convince Atiku to announce him as the vice presidential candidate.
Reacting to
the situation, Ehilebo criticized Wike for interfering in the Kogi State
election and said that he had no right to say that Melaye was not qualified to
be a governor. He also decried Wike’s moves to sabotage the opposition party
and said that the Rivers governor should not think he can misbehave and go
unchecked.
Ehilebo
further stated that Wike's attempt to stop Melaye's ambition was an abnormality
and an insult to the people of Kogi State. He questioned why Wike was berating
a candidate of his own party and called on him to support someone in the state
who could speak up for him.
In his concluding remarks, Ehilebo
advised Melaye not to toe the same path with Wike and issue a statement instead
of giving a response. He stressed that the Kogi issue was internal and that
Wike should empower someone in the state to support his preferred candidate.
