The Labor Party Presidential Campaign Council (LPPCC) has accused the All Progressives Congress
(APC) of intentionally discrediting and delegitimizing Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate, to compel him to abandon his right to seek redress in court after the outcome of the last election. According to the LPPCC, this move is an orchestrated campaign of calumny by the APC to discredit Mr. Obi. The statement by the LPPCC was made by a chief spokesperson, Dr. Tanko Yunusa. The LPPCC insisted that Mr. Obi had no intention of leaving the country, regardless of the pressure on him and his family. The LPPCC thanked Nigerians, especially the youths and Obidients, for their commitment to a new Nigeria. Mr. Obi maintained his commitment and focus on an issues-based campaign for a new Nigeria. He repeatedly stated that no one should vote for him based on tribe or religion but rather on character, competence, capacity, credibility, and compassion. In recent weeks, Mr. Obi has been under intense pressure to leave the country. He has been repeatedly told that he has a choice to leave Nigeria or face the prospect of being arrested on false charges of inciting insurrection in the country. State institutions have become part of an orchestrated campaign of calumny by the APC to discredit and delegitimize Mr. Peter Obi. Fake, doctored audio calls have been circulated to deceive and manipulate Nigerians. The LPPCC has instructed its legal team to take appropriate legal actions against the media outlets that make themselves willing tools in the hands of APC’s malicious propagandists. Nigerians and the international community have been urged to caution the APC and the APC-led government to stop their nasty attacks. Regardless of the outcome of the court process, Mr. Obi's focus and commitment to lawfully and peacefully retrieve the mandate to secure and unite the nation, take Nigeria from consumption to production, pull millions of Nigerians out of multidimensional poverty, especially in the North, and jumpstart prosperity through agricultural, industrial, and technological revolution remains unchanged. The LPPCC appealed to revered religious leaders, especially in the North, not to be part of the grand design of the state apparatus to increase religious and ethnic divide in the country. Finally, the LPPCC called on President Buhari to rein in his desperate officials at all levels, as their actions or inactions could lead to unnecessary crises in the country.Friday, April 07, 2023
