According to reports, Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who is
currently detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja, is said to be bleeding through the nose. This news was revealed by his lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, who took to Twitter on Monday to disclose the details of his client's health condition.Ejimakor,
who had met with Kanu's associate, Barr Mandela, at the DSS, reported that Kanu
directed him to make it public that he had an episode of profuse nose bleeding
the previous day. The lawyer also stated that a detainee diagnosed with
tuberculosis had been transferred to Kanu's cell block, which was a cause for
concern.
The lawyer
expressed his worry about the situation, saying that detaining a man after his
incarceration had been declared illegal, and compensation and apology had been
awarded to him, was only something that happened in failed nations. This
statement was a clear reference to the court's ruling that Kanu's detention was
illegal and the Nigerian government's subsequent apology and payment of
compensation.
The news of
Kanu's health condition is likely to raise concerns among his supporters, who
have been protesting for his release since his arrest in June 2021. The IPOB
leader faces several charges, including terrorism and treasonable felony, which
he denies, and has been held in DSS custody ever since his extradition from
Kenya in June 2021.
