Melaye: I mobilised delegates for Kogi primary with anointing oil
Dino Melaye, the People's Democratic Party
(PDP) candidate for the Kogi State governorship election in November 11, has
spoken out about his victory in the primary election held on Sunday. He attributed
his success to God and claimed to have mobilized his delegates using
"anointing oil." Responding to allegations of financial inducements,
Melaye hinted that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) or the
Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Crimes Commission (ICPC) might
have more information than he did.
In an interview with Channels TV, Melaye
explained that he could not confirm whether money was shared among delegates,
as he was not a staff member of the EFCC or ICPC. However, he emphasized that
if he could not finance a primary election at his level, there would be a
problem somewhere. He went on to say that God bankrolled him and that he banked
with the almighty God.
When pressed on how he mobilized his
delegates, the senator cited an unusual approach he took, quoting a passage
from the Bible. He revealed that he gave them anointing oil, which did the
magic. Melaye explained that he believed in Philippians 4:19, which states that
God shall supply all his needs according to His riches in glory in Christ
Jesus. He declared that God had indeed supplied his needs and helped him to
emerge victorious in the primary election.
Melaye's comments sparked controversy and mixed reactions
from the public. While some people saw his reliance on anointing oil and God's
provision as a demonstration of faith and spiritual strength, others criticized
it as an example of religious manipulation and superstition. Some also
questioned whether Melaye's victory was a result of genuine popularity and
support or electoral malpractice and manipulation. However, Melaye remained
steadfast in his belief and thanked God for his victory.
