"2023 UTME: JAMB announces fresh examination date"

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a new date for the

commencement of the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations. According to a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the exam will now begin on April 25, 2023, instead of the previously scheduled date of April 29. Additionally, the board will hold its rescheduled mock-UTME on April 18, 2023.

The mock-UTME was earlier conducted on March 30, 2023, in 725 centers across Nigeria, but it faced some technical issues in some centers, which prevented some candidates from taking the exam. The board designed the mock exam to test its preparedness and that of its partners for the UTME and to give prospective candidates hands-on experience of the CBT test environment. As a result, the mock exam has been rescheduled to hold on Tuesday, April 18, to provide candidates who were unable to sit for the examination due to no fault of theirs the opportunity to take the exam.

Candidates who were present and screened for the examination but could not sit for it will retake the mock examination on April 18. The results of the candidates who successfully took the mock examination on March 30 have been released.

The board brought forward the conduct of its 2023 UTME to accommodate some other major and critical national assignments. Benjamin stated that the adjustment in the date of the UTME was to ensure that no citizen would be denied the opportunity of exercising their civic responsibilities. The board cannot shift forward its examination because other public examinations are scheduled to commence their exercises in the early part of May 2023. Furthermore, there is a need to accommodate institutions with stable academic calendars to resume as scheduled.

The board will continue to partner with relevant government agencies to ensure that its candidates get the best, and it solicits the understanding of all as it delivers on its critical mandate.
