The South-East
Governors’ Forum has concluded plans for the smooth and safe reopening of
schools for the exit classes of Junior Secondary School and Senior Secondary
School three (JSS 3 and SS 3) respectively, to enable them sit for their WAEC
exams in the zone.
This formed part of the six
point communique reached at the forum meeting held in Enugu, which was presided
over by the chairman of the forum and Ebonyi State Governor, Engr David Umahi.
The communique was endorsed
and released by Prof. Uchenna Ortuanya, Director General, South-East Governors’
Forum.
“The Governors of South-East
States have resolved to open both public and private schools for exit classes
only (JSS3 and SS3) to enable them prepare and take their WAEC exams,”
according to the communiqué.
It stated that
governors have started the decontamination of all the schools involved
including providing hand sanitizers and running water in line with COVID-19
NCDC protocols.
According to the communique,
“Random sampling of COVID-19 tests shall be conducted on the teachers and
students before final reopening of cross the zone.
“Health workers shall be sent
to the schools to train the teachers and students on COVID-19 NCDC protocols
and to also enforce compliance.
“Governors do advise our dear
teachers and our children to know that COVID-19 is real though not a death
sentence but prevention is better than cure.”
