The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday received over 300 defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogieka Zone 1, Oredo Local Government Area, Benin City, Edo State as they declared absolute confidence in the administration of Godwin Obaseki.
This defection is coming ahead of the September 19, 2020 gubernatorial election in Edo State thus advancing the certainty of the reelection bid of Governor Godwin Obaseki , the wake-and-see-good-things governor.
Amidst cheers and fanfare, the acting chairman of the APC in Oredo Oghieka Zone 1, Comrade Osarendefe Osagie, led the defectors of APC members to the PDP, reaffirming their support for the second term aspiration of Governor Obaseki and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Comr. Philip Shaibu.
Comr. Osagie who also led his civil society group from APC to PDP in an interview with TOPFLYERS MAGAZINE noted that he was defecting with his people to PDP because Obaseki is a movement and that anywhere the governor goes, they will go with him.
“Obaseki is not just our governor; it is not just the name of the best governor in Nigeria; it is a movement and anywhere the governor goes, that is where we will go. Obaseki is a forward movement, it is an advancement, it is a stronghold”, he said.
The defectors were received by the leader of the PDP in Oredo Ward 1, Hon. Paul Osula and his executive members.
Hon. Osular congratulated all those who defected to PDP while re-enforcing that PDP is light. He said: “I want to welcome our brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers who hitherto were in APC but are here today to join PDP. You have taken the right decision and I promise you, you will not regret it. Come September 19, let us all vote for PDP. It is one man, one vote; one woman, one vote”.
He enjoined the people not to be afraid of the threats of APC because they are empty threats of losers. “Do not be afraid of the threats of APC. Their threats are empty threats of losers. However, do not fight them nor take the laws into your hands. Just be committed to the re-election bid of Godwin Obaseki and be rest assured come September 19, your votes will count”.
