The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin
Abayomi, has said the condition of the Italian that brought Coronavirus virus
to the state has improved further.
He gave the update on the COVID-19 situation at the Mainland Hospital, Yaba, in Lagos, while speaking with newsmen.
Prof.
Abayomi, who said the patient has not developed new symptoms,
urged citizens to stop the spread of false and unverified information about Coronavirus situation.
The Lagos State
Government official said further test would be conducted to ascertain if there
are still virus particles in the saliva of the Italian.
Speaking on
the number of people quarantined, Prof. Abayomi said: “The people at the factory in Ogun State, people in
the hotel where he stayed, we are contacting those on the airline and deciding
whether it is all passengers or the cabin crew members alone.
“It is a step by step decision, that is why I
cannot give an exact number at this hour, but after the Emergency Operation
Committee meeting, we will know.”
He disclosed
that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has released funds to acquire
personal protective equipment for health workers, general hospitals and major
primary healthcare centres.
According to the
Commissioner, the Lagos State Government is currently refurbishing the Mainland
Hospital, Yaba, to ensure that patients in the facility were comfortable.
Abayomi also
dismissed reports that the Uber driver that brought the patient escaped
quarantine.
