COVID-19: IGP Tasks Churches To Abide By Govt's Directed Preventive Measures

By Emeke Nwaoboli

The Insured Good People (IGP) Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has called on churches to take all preventive measures against the spread of Covid-19 especially the Edo State government's directive that there should be no gathering of more than 20 people.

The Chairman of the organization, Edefe Osagie gave this charge in a chat with Topflyers Magazine on Friday.

Osagie asserted that abstinence from church services of over 20 people was not lack of faith of God's ability to protect the people from pestilence but an attempt not to "bow down" to the devil's temptation while disguising it as an exercise of faith.

He added that just like the administrative body of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Edo State has directed that its Sunday services be held at House Fellowship Centers of not more than 20 persons, other churches could follow suit.

He added that "aside using house fellowship and cell centers for Sunday services, churches could organize their services online because we are in a digital generation".

The chairman urged churches in the state to endeavor to provide hygienic environment, hand sanitizers and thermometers to check people’s temperatures before being allowed to gain access in fellowships of even 20 people or less.

The IGP, while reiterating the fact that God had solution to all problems, urged people to humble themselves, call on God and give Him chance to act by forsaking their sinful ways and arrogance.

Osagie urged Christian faithful not to be afraid, but to call on God through prayers, saying that Satan was working relentlessly on how to torment and afflict the world.

He noted that IGP members early this year prayed and fasted for Nigeria and Nigerians and are still praying for God's intervention in this time of Covid-19.

"We prayed and fasted for Nigeria and Nigerians early this year and we are still praying for God's intervention.

"There is no need to fear in this precarious situation, however, we should take preventive measures even as Christians", he said.
