Engr. (Dr.) Chris Ogiemwonyi: The Beacon Of Hope Bags Revered Topflyers Award

A chieftain and aspirant of the 2020 guber-national election in Edo State under the auspices of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Chris Ogiemwonyi has been conferred with the revered Topflyers Award for excellence in public office, 2019/2020.

The Editor in Chief, Topflyers Magazine, Mr. Yahaya Musa, noted that the title was being conferred on Dr. Ogiemwonyi for his excellent works, accountability, reliability and transparency in public offices.
Dr. Ogiemwonyi thanked the management of Topflyers Magazine for finding him worthy and avowed that he will continue to be transparent in all his public works and if voted in as Edo State governor irrespective of the height of corruption in public offices.
ABOUT DR. CHRIS OGIEMWONYI
Engr. (Dr.) Christopher Aigbovbiosa Ogiemwonyi (born 21 March 1951) is a Doctor Of Science, Ph.D (HONORIS CAUSA)—Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and Doctor Of Engineering, Ph.D (HONORIS CAUSA)—Igbinedion University, Okada. He began his career as Petroleum Engineer 11 in 1975 with the conservation department. In February, 1997 it was seconded by SPDCC (Shell Development Petroleum Company) Warri. Between 1978 through 1982, he worked in various departments of the Petroleum Resources Ministry including the then newly created Gas Department.

Between 1982 and 1988, he worked in the Exploration and Exploitation Division of NNPC and in 1985, he was transferred to the National Reserves Evaluation Project as a Project Leader, coordinated all efforts in Dallas, USA in establishing a stronger base for the oil and gas industry.

However, in 1988, he was moved back to the exploitation division, of the Exploration and Exploitation (E&E) as Head Petroleum Engineering Department Company to nurture the newly created Petroleum and Engineering Department. He also kept an up-to-date reserves position of Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), Benin City between 1988-1999.  He served as the Abura Field Project Leader, a takeover asset from defunct TENNECO.

In 1992, he served as Oredo Field Project Leader and also as Oziengbe Field Leader. In 1999, he was promoted to General Manager, and moved to National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS) to oversee the operations Division. He midwifed various projects and concepts especially the Local Content Initiative of the Federal Government.

While in NAPIMS, he served as chairman, Nigeria OTC Committee for 2002 and 2003. Between 1999-2003, he midwifed key projects including EA field, Erha field, Bonga field, Agbami field amongst others. Engr. Ogiemwonyi is well noted for his achievements while in NAPIMS being referred to as “Mr. Local content”.

Furthermore, in November 2003, he was assigned to NPDC as Managing Director and his efforts showed quickly in increasing NPDC production from 20, 000 bopd to 70, 000 bopd. He served as chairman, Project Monitoring Committee (PMC) of Okono/Okpho Development project. He also served as Chairman, PMC of OMLs 64 and 66 project.

In March 2005, he was reassigned to Nigerian Gas Company Limited as Managing Director. His focus was to increase gas supply to major customers like PHCN, SNG, GASLINK, WAPCO, SHAGAMU and EWEKORO, NOTORE Fertilizer PH, OBAJAN CEMENT COMPANY, etc.

As Group Executive Director (GED) Exploration and Production, Engr. Ogiemwonyi was in charge of seven NNPC companies and subsidiaries which included National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), Nigeria Gas Company (NGC), LNG & Power Division, Integrated Data Services Limited (IDSL), Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), Crude Oil Marketing Division and Local Content Division.

He worked for the Federal Ministry of Works, Abuja 2010-2011 and greatly encouraged private sector participation through Public Private Partnership (PPP) as well as re-introduction of Tolling Policy in 2010. Engr. Ogiemwonyi is also the president/CEO Energy and Engineering Consulting Limited (EETC) Abuja, 2011 till date.

He served as the board of PHCN, former council member of PTI Warri and Chairman of N-gas. He was also a former Director NETCODIETSMANN, One-time Board member of Nigermed, served as member presidential committee on IPP development, served as a member of NNPC Coorporate Board and Chairman of Hyson/Calson JV. He was also a member of the presidential committee on Accelerated Expansion of Electricity Infrastructure.

Chris Ogiemwonyi belongs to many professional bodies including the Society of Petroleum Engineers, a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Petroleum Engineers, a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and former president of the Nigerian Gas Association.

He is also a recipient of the Justice of Peace (JP) by Edo State Government and Kwame Nkrumah Leadership Award, Patron to several bodies including NANS—National Association of Nigerian Students, ACNPN—Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria, etc.

Engr. Ogiemwonyi is married and blessed with children. He was an aspirant during the Edo State Gubernational Election in 2016. He contested under the All Progressive Party (APC) and he is still contesting for the 2020 race with a conviction of winning.
