Nigerian
famous singer Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy has lost the
2020 Grammy Award for the Best World Music Album.
He
lost the award to Beninese singer-songwriter, Angelique Kidjo, who was on
Sunday announced the winner of the Best World Music Album at the 62nd Grammy
Awards.
Others
nominated in the category alongside Burna Boy were Altin Gun, "Gece",
Bokante & Metropole Orkest conducted by Jules Buckley, "What
Heat", Nathalie Joachim with Spektral Quartet, "Fanm D'Ayiti",
and Angelique Kidjo, "Celia".
Burna
Boy has had a remarkable career, especially in the past one year.
In
2019, the singer was the recipient of several coveted awards including Best International
Act at the BET Awards.
However,
he has failed to clinch the much expected award like other home-grown Nigerian
singers such as King Sunny Ade, Femi Kuti and Seun Kuti, who were all nominated
in the past although it was Burna Boy’s first Grammy nomination and his
multiple award winning African Giant was widely expected to clinch it for him.
