Bunmi
Ademokoya is one of Nigeria’s
international super models, who hail from Osun State and currently pursuing her
LLB at the University of London, United Kingdom. She spoke with Top Flyers
magazine in this exclusive interview, the secret behind being a model
HOW DID U BECOME A MODEL?
I
went into it as a hobby, found I genuinely love it, and made it a career.
WHY ARE YOU INTERESTED IN
THIS CAREER?
I
love being able to showcase fashion as a form of art.
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AS A
MODEL?
To
be the best I know I can be.
HOW MANY JOBS HAVE YOU
DONE AS A MODEL?
Quite
a lot and still counting…
DO YOU HAVE ANY
LIMITATIONS?
As
a black model, there are limited jobs. There
are no much opportunities out there. As an African, the limitations are visa
related. It's harder, as you need to get necessary visas required, unlike
having a universal passport where you can travel anywhere.
WOULD YOU MODEL FOR ANY
KIND OF CLOTHING?
Yes.
As a model, your job is to showcase the designer's work irrespective of your
choice of clothing.
DO ASPIRING
MODELS NEED TO ATTEND A MODELING SCHOOL BEFORE THEY CAN PURSUE MODELING CAREER?
It
depends on how much work is needed to make the aspiring model ready. Genuine
modeling school can definitely help get them ready as regards to poses,
portfolio, catwalk etc.
HOW DO
PEOPLE KNOW FAKE MODELLING COMPANY OR AGENCY?
Knowledge
is key. Make research; ask about the credibility of such agency. Be realistic. If you look at the top models out there
and you look nothing like them or close to them in terms of height, weight,
facial structure etc, chances are that you are not suitable to be a model and
anyone stating otherwise is probably just scamming you.
DO YOUNG
ASPIRING MODELS NEED TO BE MORE THAN JUST TALL AND ATTRACTIVE?
Mostly;
Minimum height is 5.8ft. Not necessarily attractive, but most be striking in
looks.
HOW WOULD
YOU DESCRIBE THE MODELING INDUSTRY IN NIGERIA?
Still
has a long way to go but it's definitely growing.
WHAT WOULD
YOU LIKE TO TELL THE WORLD ABOUT NIGERIAN YOUTHS?
The
Nigerian people are diverse, with each person different from the next. The
world needs to give us a chance. Fashion, beauty, can definitely not be the
same with Nigerians at the helm.
