Juliet
Chidinma Mgborukwe, aka Juliearth, is an actress in the Nigerian movie
industry, who hails from Abia State. In this exclusive interview, she speaks
with Flies magazine on her personal life
Educational
Background
I
had my primary school in Lagos. Moved to Ebonyi state and had my secondary
school there. I
just finished from Lagos State University where I studied History and
International relations.
How did you
start your movie career?
Acting
is, first and foremost, a gift for me. My friends would call me a drama queen
(laughs). I have always loved the lights, camera and action life. I
started off on this path as a TV presenter for the then Super screen TV where I
covered everything Nollywood. From then, I knew I wanted my footprint in this
industry. My
first Nollywood feature was Priceless Produced
by Yvonne Nelson and Directed by Frank Rajah in 2011
How long have you been acting?
By and large, I would say 3years and counting.
Did you get
parental support when you first started acting?
Yes, my parents have been very supportive from
day one. They know I have it in me and they have let me express myself and for
that I am grateful, they are my first super fans.
What have
been your challenges?
One of the challenges is sexual harassment. I believe
I do not have to say much about this because you already know about this. I met
it in the industry and I believe it will still be there long after I have lived
my zenith in the industry, so it is not peculiar to just me. There is also the challenge of societal pressure;
there are false representations of me and unrealistic expectations of me as an
actress. So I live finding a convenient balance.
Tell us
some of the movies you have acted in and if you have also done a personal movie?
I have featured in a lot of movies, sure can not
list all. It is over 35 and counting. Movies like Sisters’ Battle, Ebube, Priceless, Educated Housemaids, Strange
Madness, School Trouble, Airline babes, Yankee Students, See Gobe, just to
name a few.
I
do not have a personal movie out yet, however that is in the offing.
What can you say about the Nigeria movie
industry?
Like every industry, it has its pros and cons and
I am getting my fair share of both.
As you know, it is the 3rd biggest movie industry
in the world and gradually becoming a major economic stream of income for the nation
and that's a big feat. I am proud of it and appreciate the veterans that have
made it so. We still have our very obvious setbacks as an
Industry; however we have more Aces than jokers
What is your favourite meal?
I do not have a particular favourite meal but I
can feed on cereals all year.
What are
your words of note for FLIES magazine, a celebrity magazine that cuts
across Nigeria and beyond in the areas of entertainment, fashion, politics, etc?
Give
real, timely & refreshing entertainment gist and take the spotlight as the
leading celebrity magazine Nigeria has ever seen.
